For over 10 years Motion Pixel Lab has provided video, animation, and design work for the Space Foundation Space Technology Hall of Fame.
In the past, the gala event - a dinner with video presentations and renowned speakers - utilized a large 3to1 projection screen at the back of the stage to display video and stills. In 2018, the arrangement was altered to include 3 projections screens - one larger screen in the middle, and two vertical screens to the side. A varied look, but a bit more challenging to cover with imagery.
Well, never content to just "throw something up on the screen" in a standard format, we thought - why not synchronize not just the three stage screens, but also the 2 IMAGs hanging on either side of the stage as well. Expanding the required imagery from one single HD screen to five, with a final resolution of 7240x1080!
Daunting, but feasible - and we knew the overall effect would be pretty damn cool if it all worked out.
After some long nights - cutting imagery of various sorts to display across such a massive canvas, dialing-in the timing (too much happening on five screens at once can quickly become distracting and overwhelming), and producing ultra high resolution animation - we can happily say attendees seemed suitable impressed (hopefully it wasn't just the wine!). And, we surprisingly impressed ourselves as well - not an easy task.
Note - the sample video is best viewed on a large monitor - the larger the better. This is not a show that was designed to see an after-life on smart phones.
